I had noted the marked similarity myself, though the Marie Antoinette version is considerably more lavish. Its certainly the same base design.Paul G. You know how much I - love - this blog, dear fellow, but I have to complain once again about how hard it is to read and how small the images are on the page. I have to read the thing, my nose pressed to the screen, and then go back and click on the images so that I can actually see them properly - so then I can't enjoy the text AND the images at the same time. I don't know what your reasoning is for not presenting the wonderful images in a larger format within the text, but I must say again that I find it rather a pain - as much as I adore you! : )Stephiliushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08562830870365561419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3444730936505370363.post-36436792803903720322015-02-28T09:11:42.654-08:002015-02-28T09:11:42.654-08:00All fabulous; I especially like the guy with the c...All fabulous; I especially like the guy with the crazy hair and the collar!

An aside related to Lansbury's glamorous Hollywood get-up: Her necklace (with matching earrings) is one of at least a few renditions of exactly the same pattern, used and re-used in several MGM films and publicity of the time. Here set with "emeralds" - quite vividly green in the actual film - the all "diamond" version was used most famously - in perhaps the design's first outing - in Norma Shearer's Marie Antoinette, where it actally played a part in the plot. (She loses it on a wager in the scene where she first meets Count Fersen.)

Stephiliushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08562830870365561419noreply@blogger.com
