Perception. Fashion is as much about how we want other people to perceive us as it is about fantasy, IMO. Sometimes I want to hide, so I wear a plain t-shirt and jeans and don't do anything with my hair or makeup. Other times, I want to make an impression of one sort or another, so I don the appropriate clothing. Business attire if I'm going on an interview, fun clothes if I'm going out to ogle men, a funny, funky t-shirt if I want people to make comments to me. (My Doctor Who mash-up shirts are a good conversation starter.) It all depends on how I want others to see or not see me.
Also? Nothing to do with fashion but: What is that purple color on your walls? I tried doing a purple accent wall in my living room and it kind of looks like purple mud. Not the look I was going for, to be honest.
